Forgeborn Union
Kalyx-Orbitals
Kalyx was never meant to be a home, just a strategic planet with rich helium-3 reserves. Around it, a chain of extraction platforms and processing stations, collectively known as the Kalyx-Orbitals, grew fat on fuel contracts.
Work conditions were lethal. Rotating corporate owners cut maintenance corners and paid bonuses in hazard pay and sealed caskets. In response, the workers began coordinating across platforms: sharing safety data, staging walkouts, and sabotaging unsafe equipment until repairs were made.
The first declaration of the Forgeborn Union was transmitted from a jury-rigged broadcast tower on Kalyx Station 3A, a refitted comms rig that had once spammed advertisements and was now repurposed for solidarity. That transmission is still replayed on Union Day each cycle: "We are the ones who keep your engines lit, your ships flying, your stations breathing. You will treat us as more than replaceable parts. We are the Forgeborn Union, and we will not be ignored."
Today the Kalyx-Orbitals are considered Union Heartland. Apprentices dream of serving a cycle there, though the work remains as dangerous as ever.
