Away from their home systems, the Vanta Wards are the uneasy guests that stations both fear and are glad to have. There are often stories floating around stations with Wards on board, and they rarely deny these stories. They let the myths work; myths are a kind of armour.

• Unnerving: they appear in doorways without being noticed.
• Paranoid: always checking sightlines, asking about backup power, wanting to know who controls the sensors and cameras.
• Quietly loyal: they'll take contracts, but everyone knows their deepest allegiance is to their own clans.
