Away from their overgrown worlds and living cities, Verdants feel thin. A lone Verdant aboard a metal station or in a sealed habitat will often cultivate small "pocket biomes", trays of soil under bunks, vines coaxed along rafters, little terrarium shrines fixed to bulkheads. They talk to these spaces, tend them, and listen as if something is speaking back.

• Worryingly excited in the face of infection or decay.
• Disconcertingly plural, speaking of "we" when no one else is in the room, pausing mid-conversation as if listening to something only they can hear.
